As with correctional medical care, MHM has also designed a model for state hospitals to assist states with the staffing and day-to-day management of their inpatient psychiatric facilities.
We recognize that the number of state-owned and operated inpatient psychiatric beds has declined dramatically over the past 25 years. However, the need for short- and long-term inpatient treatment for persons with serious and persistent mental illness remains in high demand.
This dynamic, coupled with the national shortage of healthcare professionals, makes it difficult for state governments to effectively and efficiently staff and manage their inpatient psychiatric facilities.
Our model answers this problem by enabling better staffing and the modernization of treatment programs in existing facilities – circumventing the need to construct new buildings. The state is thus able to retain control of the facility and program while improving services and achieving greater cost-efficiency.
